This should never really be something you need to ask in the workplace, but unfortunately, we’ve all probably been there at some point in our career, or possibly (definitely) will be in the future if you’re just starting out.
The reality is that personalities within a business can make a HUGE impact, both in positive and negative respects – this in turn having an effect on your company or product outcome.
We’ve probably all gone through interview processes where we have had the self-doubt, or the pure confidence about how it will go. How much will I earn? Am I good enough? Will the people like me? But having done my fair share of interviews over the past decade and having been lucky not to have ‘been interviewed’ for a while, the one thing that has shifted in the process of meeting candidates has been WILL THEY FIT IN?
Understanding the culture and the personalities that we have as an agency and truly seeing team members come and go for various reasons, really drives home the fact that although everyone is different and their personality is their own, it is so important to have the correct ‘fit’ of a person in their respected roles.
One person’s attitude can change a day for 15 others. A simple joke or a laugh can lighten any tension lying around. Sharing a story can change another person’s train of thought, which then encourages proactivity. A client’s dilemma suddenly becomes a rallying call for the team. All of this creates the energy and the buzz that is needed to be productive, and ultimately to have a good working environment.
But we all know that the opposite can happen. And with negative tension, comes negative attitude. The problem being the negative tension flowing over into the rest of the team and in turn, possibly towards your clients and their requirements.
We all know that nobody ever goes out to purposefully create a toxic workplace, but being aware of early signs of this and addressing it early on can only benefit everyone involved. It doesn’t matter how talented you are, or think you are, the right attitude mixed with the right enthusiasm mixed with the people can create such amazing rapport and results.
The old cliché is still true, teamwork makes the dream work. This shows in the work we do as an agency, the relationships we have with our clients and the brands we help steer towards greater success.
So when joining a new company, if you want to Enjoy the Silence or if you Just Can’t Get Enough, always remember that Everything Counts in large amounts.
